This month's design spotlight features a 2007 Regional COTY Award Winner for Best Bathroom Reconstruction Under $60,000. (Shown left.)

The owners of this beautifully remodeled home attended the 2006 NARI Remodeling Expo in search of ideas to renovate a very small bathroom. They fell in love with a bathroom project I had done for another client, and hired me to do the same for them.

Their original master bathroom was very small—two people couldn’t even be in it at the same time. It had a 36” vanity, a door to get to the toilet, and a small shower. There was very little lighting, no ventilation, and the ceiling and walls were covered with mold and peeling paint.

My solution was to take out the wall between the existing shower and the closet in the adjoining bedroom. A large round shower was created with a heated two-person bench. By removing the wall, we were able to fit in a 72” vanity with double sinks. Glass block was used to create walls for the shower and toilet area. All the doors were removed, floor heating, additional lighting, and ventilation was added. The usable space actually doubled.

My clients were ecstatic—having a “SPA” in their very own home. “I want you to know how much we love our new bathroom. We look forward to getting up in the morning to take our shower.  We feel like we want to grab a bottle of champagne and have a party!” Now that’s a satisfied client!
